Julia Gjertsen
Julia Gjertsen is a pianist and composer based in Oslo. Combining contemporary electronic elements with the piano, she creates contemplative soundscapes and introspective compositions that draw inspiration from nature and reflect on moments from the past and present. Her music is characterized by a tender playing style and beautifully crafted melodies that aim to convey nuanced perceptions and emotions that can often be challenging to express through words. In her debut album, 'Fragile' (2019), Julia provides a glimpse into her signature musical style. In her second album, 'Formations' (2022), she expands the soundscape with the addition of flute and electronics to create suggestive sound images. Julia has collaborated with several artists, including Nico Rosenberg, with whom she has released two albums: 'Distant Fields' (2020) and 'Paisajes Imaginarios' (2022). Recently, she also released a collaborative EP titled 'Dive' (2023) with Finnish composer Juha Mäki-Patola. Julia has contributed pieces to a number of our piano day compilations and single series since 2018.
