Veronique Vaka, born in 1986, is an Icelandic-based Canadian cellist and composer.
She studied classical cello performance at Vincent-d’Indy and continued her studies in electroacoustic composition at the University of Montreal. Vaka is currently in the Master's degree of composition at the Iceland Academy of the Arts under the guidance of Páll Ragnar Pálsson and Þuríður Jónsdóttir. Her research is about how to translate a landscape to instrumental music by assigning features such as what we see, hear and feel into musical parameters.
Vaka has composed works for Sinfóníuhljómsveit Áhugamanna's orchestra, Ensemble Paramirabo, Duo Harpverk, Ensemble Synaesthesis, Ensemble Adapter and Caput Ensemble. She is currently writing for the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
